Short interview: women in IT at ppi Media

Melani Storr

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, our colleague Melanie Storr talks about her job in IT and why women are so important in this field.

What are your tasks at ppi Media and how long have you been working in IT?

I have been working in IT since October 2020, before that I was a chemist. At ppi Media I program the user interfaces, i.e. what you see as a user of the software.

What do you particularly like and dislike about the IT sector?

I like solving logical problems. You can try out and tinker a lot and don’t need a lot of resources. IT people are pleasant colleagues. They are open to new things and learn throughout their working lives, because IT technologies are constantly changing. This is the only way to make a difference. The downside, as with any office job, is that you spend a lot of time in front of your PC in an unhealthy posture.

Why do you think women are important in IT?

In general, I find it more pleasant to work in a mixed team. If there are more women in the industry, their views and interests are better represented.
